The Chief Minister or popularly known as the “didi” of West Bengal is recently getting into controversies because of her statement. In 2013 she stated that rape was connected to increasing population. She said girls and boys are becoming more modern which is leading to the mishappening. Earlier parents used to restrict men and women held hands, but nowadays everything is done openly.

The Samajwadi Party supremo opposed the death penalty to three men convicted in a gangrape case saying that boys will be boys, they commit mistakes. He puts the blame on girls for getting friendly with boys. And again in 2015, he said that it is impossible for 4 men to rape a girl. He claims to have seen that when one person commits a crime, 4 brothers in the same family get arrested.

Later, he accused the PM of hiding behind the blood of the soldiers when BJP started a campaign to highlight the surgical strike as Modi's success.

The chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) said that the rapes mostly occur in urban areas due to westernisation and they do not happen in rural India because of rich traditional values. He termed rural India as "Bharat" and says rape doesn't happen in Bharat. It happens in westernized areas where "Bharat" becomes "India."

He says electricity will curb the population in villages. Since in ancient times there was no electricity which means no entertainment. So people used to have sex and as a result, the population grew at a fast rate. But today TV is the biggest source of entertainment. By the time the serial gets over, they won't have the energy to have sex and will fall asleep.
